CMTL provides independent compatibility testing of modules on Intel desktop and server platforms using the Intel advanced memory compatibility test process. The advanced test process includes room and elevated temperature, minimum and maximum load configurations, voltage margining when required and Intel proprietary or commercial test software and tools depending on Intel motherboard or system selected.
CMTL President John Deters recalls, "CMTL was formed almost 17 years ago, during an offsite lunch meeting with Doug Steffen and Ken Reid from what was then, Intel's OPSD group. Since that time, the memory module industry has gone from feast to famine. The industry continues to be financially brutal and more challenging with each new technology introduction." CMTL was formed in 1996 in conjunction with Intel to perform 3rd party independent memory module compatibility tests on Intel platforms. CMTL recommends Intel motherboard customers to buy memory that has successfully passed the Intel advanced compatibility testing process and is listed on each specific Intel motherboard approved memory list. Modules not on the approved Intel memory lists are not supported by Intel and may experience sporadic errors, unstable functionality, performance issues, intermittent speed variations and system crashes.
