WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - Level 3 Communications Inc. (LVLT) said Wednesday fourth-quarter loss widened to $163 million, or a loss of $0.80 per share, from the year-ago loss of $52 million, or a loss of $0.47 per share. Loss from continuing operations was $235 million, or a loss of $1.15 per share, compared to a loss of $53 million, or a loss of $0.48 per share, last year.
Excluding special items, loss for the quarter was $0.62 per share. Ten analysts polled by Thomson Reuters estimated a loss of $1.10 per share. Analysts' estimates usually exclude special items.
Quarterly revenue jumped to $1.58 billion from the prior-year's $904 million, with core networks services registering an 8 percent rise in revenues. Excluding intercompany eliminations revenues for the quarter were $934 million.
