BEIJING (XFN-ASIA) - Swiss-based ABB has won a contract to provide a power plant and propulsion system for a train ferry between the eastern Chinese cities of Yantai and Dalian.
Construction of the new ferry will begin in April next year and is scheduled to be completed in May 2008. The ferry will be able to carry 50 train carriages, 50 trucks, 25 cars and 480 passengers.
Launched in October 2004, the ferry line across Bohai Bay helps shorten the train connection between the two cities by almost 1,000 kilometers.
'The repeat order...confirms (the customer's) trust in our advanced propulsion system, our ability to execute projects and our high quality after-sales service,' said Rami Jokela, general manager of ABB's marine business in China.
ABB's China business includes manufacturing and research and development. The group has 8,500 employees, 25 joint ventures and wholly owned companies, and a sales and service network across 30 cities.
