SHANGHAI (XFN-ASIA) - China's central government has sacked Shanghai's communist party secretary Chen Liangyu over a widening pension fund scandal, the official Xinhua News Agency reported.
An investigation has found Chen to be involved in the misuse of the Shanghai Labor and Social Security Bureau's social security fund, Xinhua said.
The agency reported Chen had sought benefits for illicit enterprises, covered up for staff who had violated regulations and taken advantage of his position to promote his family's interests.
Chen's actions have damaged the party, it added.
The central government's politburo made its decision on Sept 24, according to Xinhua.
The head of Shanghai's social security bureau, Zhu Junyi has been detained in an investigation into the improper lending of social security funds. The head of Shanghai's Baosan district is also reportedly under investigation.
