SEOUL (AFX) - Hyundai Motor Co said its vehicle sales expanded 52.3 pct year-on-year in September to a record 264,014 units, supported by brisk exports and stronger domestic demand.
The previous record for monthly performance was set in November 2005 when the company sold 254,957 units.
On a month-on-month basis, Hyundai's car sales rose 23 pct in September.
The company sold a total of 56,093 vehicles last month in the domestic market, up 47.1 pct year-on-year and up 9.3 pct month-on-month, the strongest level so far this year, helped by solid sales of Sonata and new Avante models.
Exports stood at a record 207,921 units in September, up 53.8 pct year-on-year and up 27.4 pct from the previous month.
In the nine months to September, car sales totaled 1.93 mln units, up 9.1 pct from a year earlier.
