BRUSSELS (AFX) - The European Commission has decided to allow Italy to grant a start-up aid of 63.l mln eur for new routes from Puglia's airports to other national and European destinations, as well as allowing Polish aid for infrastructure improvements at its Lodz airport.
The commission said the aid for Italy is intended to help airlines wishing to establish new routes to and from the airports by meeting part of their start-up costs and route-specific marketing aid.
The aid is limited to 40 pct of eligible costs and to three years for each new route.
Separately, the EU executive said it 'did not raise any objections' to the public financing of improvements to Lodz airport's infrastructure and its security measures.
The project will cost 34.8 mln zloty, with a maximum state contribution of 71.85 pct. nina.chestney@thomson.com nc/amb COPYRIGHT Copyright AFX News Limited 2007. All rights reserved.
