PARIS (Thomson Financial) - French Finance Minister Christine Lagarde said the financial situation of the major French banks remains 'solid'.
'This is quite simply the result of the structure of their balance sheet and the supervision of the banks by the banking commission,' Lagarde said following a meeting with US Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson.
'From that point of view, French banks are in a very, very good position, particularly in comparison with the German banks,' she said. steve.whitehouse@thomson.com sw/dca COPYRIGHT Copyright Thomson Financial News Limited 2007.
