NEW YORK (AP) - Electrical products maker Emerson Electric Co. and handset maker Motorola Inc. said Friday that Emerson agreed to pay $350 million in cash for Motorola's embedded communications computing business.
Embedded computing technology is used to control machines or distant computer systems and manage information. The business's embedded computing products and services are used by communication infrastructure and equipment makers for telecommunications, medical imaging and military applications, among others.
The transaction is expected to be finished by the end of the year. Once it closes, the unit will become part of Emerson Network Power.
Last year, Emerson acquired an embedded computing business as part of its purchase of Artesyn Technologies.
