FRANKFURT (Thomson Financial) - United Internet AG. is considering legal action against Freenet AG., should the company further pursue its plans to acquire Permira's Debitel AG., Sueddeutsche Zeitung reported.
Should the plan be pursued further, United Internet's chief executive Ralph Dommermuth said he can 'not rule out personal claims against the acting board members,' he was quoted as saying in a letter to Freenet's management board, obtained by the paper.
He added that he is still interested to acquire Freenet.
United Internet earlier this week hiked its takeover offer for Freenet to 14 euros per share from 12.80 euros, but said it plans to buy Freenet under the condition the telecommunications company does not take over Debitel.
United Internet and Drillisch AG. already hold a combined 25.24 percent stake in Freenet and plan to split up the company after the takeover. christoph.steitz@thomsonreuters.com cs1/lam COPYRIGHT Copyright Thomson Financial News Limited 2008.
