NEW YORK, Sept 30 (Reuters) - U.S. mortgage-backed securities issuance totaled $74.8 billion in the third quarter of 2009, up sharply from $39 billion in the same period a year earlier, Thomson Reuters said on Wednesday.
Barclays Capital, the investment banking arm of UK lender Barclays, was the top underwriter of U.S. mortgage-backed securities in the third quarter of 2009, a survey showed.
Barclays Capital underwrote 6 issues of mortgage-backed bonds, totaling $12.2 billion, a 16.4 percent market share.
