SYDNEY, April 1 (Reuters) - Newcrest Mining Ltd, Australia's top gold producer, said on Thursday it will hold a 0000 GMT news conference on its proposed takeover offer for Lihir Gold.
Newcrest confirmed it had approached Lihir with a proposal to combine the two companies through a scrip and cash transaction.
