KUALA LUMPUR, April 20 (Reuters) - Malaysia's eighth-largest lender Affin Holdings may be keen to make a takeover bid for bigger rival EON Capital Bhd if the chance arises, local media reported on Tuesday.
'If there's an opportunity and if no one else is looking at it, and if we can get approval from the authorities, we may want to have a look at it,' Affin deputy chairman Lodin Wok Kamaruddin was quoted as saying by Business Times newspaper.
Affin had said last week it had not submitted any plan to the central bank to buy seventh-ranked EON Capital, denying a newspaper report..
No. 6 lender Hong Leong Bank, controlled by Malaysian billionaire Quek Leng Chan, had earlier offered to buy EON Capital's assets and liabilities for 5.1 billion ringgit ($1.59 billion).
