
The consumer price index was up 0.03 percent on a monthly basis on the back of a rise in some of its major consumer and food components, according to figures released by the Department of Statistics, based on calculation methods dating from 2006.

The biggest price increases in June were transport costs, which jumped 14.02 percent, followed by tobacco and cigarettes, up 12.09 pct, meat and poultry, up 10.48 percent, and fuel and lighting, which rose 8.00 percent.

-- Compared to the previous month, the June CPI showed rises especially in prices of rents (+2.01 percent), tea, cocoa and coffee (+2.2 percent), meat and poultry (+1.8 percent), and personal hygiene goods (+1 percent).
-- They were partly offset by declines that are mainly in vegetables (-6.3 percent), dairy products (-1.3 percent), drinks and beverages (-0.11 percent).
