FACTBOX-Jobs and production at Fiat's car plants

July 28 (Reuters) - Fiat Chief Executive Sergio Marchionne demanded guarantees from unions on Wednesday that its Italian plants would be able to operate profitably, saying if no deal were possible the carmaker would have to look elsewhere.

Marchionne's comments came during talks over the future of Fiat's largest Italian plant at Mirafiori in its home town of Turin.

Below are key facts about Fiat's car plants in Italy and elsewhere:



* MIRAFIORI, Turin (Started producing in 1939)

Workforce: 5,486

Models/Products: Fiat Punto (Van), Fiat Idea (Van), Fiat Multipla (Van), Alfa Romeo MiTo, Lancia Musa.

-- Marchionne announced on July 21 that he had decided to produce the new Fiat Multipla, Idea and Lancia Musa models in Serbia instead of at the Mirafiori plant.



* TERMINI IMERESE, Palermo (production started in 1970)

Workforce: 1,342

Models/Products: Lancia Ypsilon

-- Fiat confirmed production of Ypsilon (with Euro 5 engine) until 2011, but said it would then stop car output. It is not yet clear what it will produce.



* GIAMBATTISTA VICO, Pomigliano, Naples (production started in 1968)

Workforce: 4,730

Models/ Alfa Romeo 147, Alfa GT, Alfa Romeo 159, Alfa Romeo 159 Sportwagon, Bravo.

-- Fiat has decided to produce its new Panda model here with investment of 700 million euros ($909 million), but has only secured support from 62 percent of the employees for changes in working conditions it says are a condition for the move.

-- Fiat registered a new company to manage employees at the plant in Pomigliano d'Arco, near Naples, a financial source told Reuters on July 27, allowing it to sign up those workers who support the new labour deal. The new company will be called Fabbrica Italiana Pomigliano and be headed by Marchionne.

-- On July 15, Fiom union secretary general Maurizio Landini said that Fiat would not start making the next Panda model at its Naples plant until spring 2012, later than expected, citing the terms of a labour deal his union rejected.



* CASSINO, Frosinone (production started in 1972)

Workforce: 3,939

Models/ Fiat Croma, Fiat Bravo, Lancia Delta.

-- Fiat confirmed production of all models. New C-segment Alfa to begin production in 2010.



* MELFI, Potenza (production started in 1993)

Workforce: 5,280

Models/ Fiat Grande Punto, Fiat Punto Evo.

-- Fiat confirmed Grande Punto and announced production of new Punto Evo.



* SEVEL VAL DI SANGRO, Chieti (production started in
1981
Joint venture with PSA Peugeot Citroen)
