WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - American States Water Company (AWR) reported Monday a sharp rise in its third-quarter net income to $15.6 million or 83 cents per share from $6.7 million or 35 cents per share last year, helped by higher revenues and lower operating costs.
Last year's quarter included a pretax impairment charge of $9.0 million or 32 cents per share.
On average, six analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to earn 72 cents per share. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.
Third quarter operating revenues increased to $119.90 million from $111.30 million in the prior year quarter, but missed the Street estimates of $120.19 million.
