WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - Layne Christensen Co. (LAYN) announced Thursday a 6.8 percent rise in third-quarter profit to $8.8 million, or $0.45 per share, from last year's $8.2 million, or $0.42 per share. Four analysts polled by Thomson Reuters estimated earnings of $0.49 per share. Analysts' estimates usually exclude special items.
Revenues for the period went up to $294.9 million compared to last year's $269.8 million, thanks to mineral exploration revenues jumping 39.6 percent to $72.1 million. Four analysts polled by Thomson Reuters estimated revenues of $278.08 million.
