PEKING (dpa-AFX) - Operating conditions across Chinese manufacturing sector remained weak at the start of 2012 with new orders and production falling further, a survey by Markit Economics showed Friday. The HSBC flash manufacturing purchasing managers' index scored 48.8 in January compared to 48.7 in December. Though this was the highest reading in three months, it was below the neutral mark of 50, indicating a contraction in factory activity. The manufacturing output index fell to 47 in January from 49.4 in December.
