WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - Diamond Offshore Drilling, Inc. (DO) posted fourth-quarter net income of $188 million or $1.36 per share, lower than $242 million or $1.74 per share reported a year ago. Revenues for the quarter fell to $748 million from $841 million in the same quarter a year earlier. The company noted that results for the fourth quarter of 2011 were positively impacted by lower tax expense partially resulting from the reduction of its liability for uncertain tax positions. Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to report earnings of $0.99 per share on revenues of $738.71 million for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.
