SEATTLE (dpa-AFX) - U.S. online retail spending for the fourth quarter of 2011 rose 14% year-over-year to $49.7 billion, according to estimates released by digital business analytics firm comScore, Inc. (SCOR) on Monday. The growth rate represented the ninth consecutive quarter of positive year-over-year growth and fifth consecutive quarter of double-digit growth rates. The top-performing online product categories were: Digital Content & Subscriptions, Jewelry & Watches, Consumer Electronics, Toys & Hobbies, and Computer Software. Ten individual days in the fourth quarter surpassed $1 billion in online spending, led by Cyber Monday on November 28 at $1.251 billion. For the full year 2011, U.S. retail e-commerce spending reached a record $161.5 billion, an increase of 13% from 2010.
