WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - Republic Services Inc. (RSG) reported fourth-quarter net income of $191.0 million, or $0.51 per share, up from $147.6 million or $0.38 per share, for the comparable period last year.
Excluding items, net income for the quarter would have been $195.3 million or $0.53 per share, up from $160.8 million, or $0.42 per share in the year ago quarter. Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to report earnings of $0.45 per share for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.
Revenue for the quarter increased to $2.03 billion from $2.02 billion in the same quarter last year. Eight analysts had consensus revenue estimate of $2.02 billion for the quarter.
Republic also announced that its Board declared a regular quarterly dividend of $0.22 per share for stockholders of record on April 2, 2012. The dividend will be paid on April 16, 2012.
The company expect 2012 adjusted earnings per share to be in the range of $1.98 to $2.02. Adjusted earnings per share exclude loss on extinguishment of debt. Earnings per share are expected to be in the range of $1.80 - $1.84. The company expects an increase in revenue for 2012 of 1.5% to 2.0%. Analysts expect the company to report earnings of $2.01 per share on revenues of $8.35 billion for fiscal 2012.
