WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - Arch Coal Inc.'s (ACI) fourth-quarter 2011 net income climbed to $70.9 million, or $0.33 per share from $47.8 million, or $0.29 per share in the prior-year period.
Excluding acquisition-related costs associated with the purchase of International Coal Group or 'ICG' as well as non-cash amortization of acquired coal supply deals, adjusted earnings were $0.29 per share for the recent quarter, whereas last year's adjusted earnings per share amounted to $0.33. On average, 24 analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected earnings per share of $0.32 for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude one-time items.
Revenues topped $1.23 billion, a 47 percent growth from $835.39 million in the earlier year quarter, on significantly higher sales prices and the addition of the former ICG operations. Analysts estimated revenues of $1.30 billion for the quarter.
