WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - Amedisys Inc. (AMED) posted a plunge in fourth-quarter net income attributable to the company to $4.31 million or $0.15 per share from $22.1 million or $0.77 per share last year.
On an adjusted basis, net income from continuing operations attributable to Amedisys Inc. common stockholders per share were $0.49, significantly lower than year-ago quarter's $1.03. On average, 12 analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected earnings per share of $0.29 for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude one-time items.
Net service revenue declined to $370.75 million from $388.72 million in the earlier year quarter.
For 2012, earnings per share are expected to be in the range of $0.95 - $1.10 and net service revenue in the range between $1.475 billion and $1.525 billion. The company said this outlook excludes the effects of any future acquisitions, if any are made; effects of any share repurchases; any non-recurring costs or charges that may be incurred during the year or the impact of any future Medicare rate changes.
