MADRID (dpa-AFX) - Spanish industrial production declined for the fifth consecutive month in January, the statistical office INE said Wednesday.
The calendar adjusted industrial output declined 4.2 percent, steeper than the 3.5 percent fall seen in December. However, the rate of fall was slightly smaller than the 4.3 percent drop forecast by economists.
Meanwhile, on an unadjusted basis, production fell at a slower pace of 2.4 percent, after declining 6.5 percent in December.
Consumer goods production slipped 1.6 percent and durable consumer goods dropped 8.5 percent. The decline in capital goods and intermediate goods production deepened to 6 percent and 5.7 percent, respectively. Energy output decreased 4 percent from a year ago.
