WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - FuelCell Energy, Inc. (FCEL) posted first-quarter net loss to common shareholders of $6.7 million or $0.05 per share compared to the loss of $11.7 million or $0.10 per share last year.
The company noted that a series of cost control initiatives resulted in reduced operating expenses for the current period compared to the prior year period.
Total revenues for the three-month period improved to $31.3 million from $28.1 million in the same quarter a year earlier.
Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to report a loss of $0.06 per share on revenues of $32.68 million for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.
