WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - ImmunoGen Inc. (IMGN) Friday reported positive results from a Phase III trial, dubbed EMILIA, of the anticancer compound transtuzumab emtansine, which the company is developing jointly with Genentech, a subsidiary of Roche Holding AG (ROG.VX, RHHBY.PK). The trial evaluated the compound as a treatment for metastatic breast cancer, or mBC, with the results indicating significantly longer progression-free survival, compared to treatment with lapatinib plus capecitabine.
The patients in the trial were previously treated with transtuzumab, or Her ceptin, plus a taxane. Roche now anticipates applying for marketing approval for the product as a treatment for mBC in the US through Genentech, but added that results for the other co-primary efficacy endpoint - overall survival - were not yet mature.
