LONDON (dpa-AFX) - Centamin PLC (CEE.TO, CEY.L) announced preliminary production results from its Sukari Gold Mine or Sukari in Egypt for the first quarter.
For the three months period, total gold production increased 9% to 49,071 ounces from corresponding quarter last year. Despite the strike activity that occurred during the quarter, gold production was only marginally below budget.
The company said that Whilst disruptions to operations during the period resulted in lower overall tonnes mined from the open pit and lower overall tonnes treated by the process plant than in fourth quarter, the resultant gold production was underpinned by the plant achieving record productivity, with tonnes per hour rates exceeding 5Mtpa consistently during the quarter.
Quarterly throughput in the Sukari process plant was 1,020kt, up 38% than the corresponding quarter in 2011 and 4% lower than sequential quarter.
The underground mine achieved quarterly material movement and underground ore production advanced to 71,815t, a 3% increase on fourth quarter of 2011.
