LOWELL (dpa-AFX) - J.B. Hunt Transport Services Inc. (JBHT) reported an increase in profit for the first quarter, driven mainly by higher revenue growth.
Net earnings for the quarter improved to $67.7 million or $0.57 per share, compared to $50.1 million or $0.40 per share in the previous year period. On average, 26 analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected earnings of $0.52 per share for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.
Total operating revenues for the quarter grew to $1.17 billion from $1.00 billion in the comparable quarter last year. All four segments contributed to this increase in operating revenues, the company noted. Eighteen Wall Street analysts estimated revenues of $1.15 billion for the quarter.
