WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - Bemis Co., Inc. (BMS) reported net income attributable to the company of $43.97 million or $0.42 per share for the first quarter versus $51.21 million or $0.47 per share last year.
Quarterly sales declined to $1.3 billion from $1.32 billion in the prior year.
Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to report earnings of $0.47 per share on revenues of $1.32 billion for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.
Looking forward, the company expects adjusted earnings per share for the second quarter of 2012 to be in the range of $0.51 to $0.57. Also, the company expects adjusted earnings per share for the full year 2012 to be in the range of $2.05 to $2.20 per share.
Analysts expect the company to earn $0.53 per share and $2.09 per share for the second quarter and full year respectively.
