OTTAWA (dpa-AFX) - Power Corporation Of Canada (POW.TO) reported that its first-quarter net earnings attributable to participating shareholders rose to C$264 million or C$0.57 per share from C$216 million or C$0.47 per share in the previous-year quarter.
However, operating earnings attributable to participating shareholders declined to C$209 million or C$0.45 per share from C$218 million or C$0.47 per share in the year-ago quarter.
On average, six analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to earn C$0.54 per share for the quarter. Analysts estimates typically exclude special items.
The company said its board declared a dividend of 29 cents per share on the participating preferred and subordinate voting shares of the corporation, payable June 29, 2012 to shareholders of record June 8, 2012.
