LONDON (dpa-AFX) - Antofagasta plc (ANTO.L, ANFGY.PK) posted 35.4% higher first-quarter Group EBITDA of $1.10 billion, compared with year-ago quarter's $811.9 million. Group revenue for the latest quarter climbed 38.9% to $1.76 billion from $1.27 billion in the same period in 2011, mainly reflecting increased copper and gold volumes and increased gold prices. The company said the increased revenues were partly offset by increased operating costs.
Quaterly Copper production volumes totaled 162,900 tonnes, a 25.5% growth on the 129,800 tonnes produced last year. Gold production volumes were 63,500 ounces and sales volumes were 63,400 ounces, reflecting the increased production as a result of the start-up of Esperanza.
