CANBERA (dpa-AFX) - The New Zealand dollar, which was a clear outperforming major currency in the early Asian session, erased some of its gains in late morning following reports about an earthquake in the country.
According to Geonet, the official source of geological hazard information for New Zealand, reported a 6.1 magnitude earthquake near Wellington.
The report sent the kiwi backpedaling, falling as low as 0.8054 against the greenback and 78.39 against the yen from previous peaks of 0.8114 and 78.98, respectively.
The kiwi dollar also fell to 1.1355 against the Australian dollar and 1.6575 against the euro from previous highs of 1.1276 and 1.6451, respectively.
