BEIJING (dpa-AFX) - Chinese personal computers maker Lenovo Group Ltd (LNVGY, LNVGF) Wednesday said its fourth-quarter profit increased 25 percent from last year, as revenues climbed 19 percent.
Profit attributable to equity holders increased to $158 million from $127 million reported last year. Earnings per share rose to 1.51 US cents from 1.20 US cents.
Revenue increased 19 percent to $9.357 billion from $7.832 billion in the prior year. China accounted for 33 percent of the company's worldwide sales
For the first time, Lenovo's EMEA revenue surpassed its China PC revenue in the quarter. In the U.S., Lenovo surpassed Apple Inc. (AAPL) to take the number three position in PC shipments in the quarter.
Compared to an overall PC industry decline of 4.6 percent year-over-year in the quarter, Lenovo grew shipments at a 15 point premium to the market.
During the year, Lenovo expanded its number one position in PCs, by adding 2.1 points of market share to post a record 17.7 percent total share.
This represents five percent year-over-year growth, compared to an overall industry decline of 8 percent during this same period. According to the company, even when China's PC market slowed, Lenovo's operating profit in China PC improved 1 percentage point.
Lenovo's board declared a final dividend of 2.32 US cents, or 18 HK cents per share for the fiscal year to March 31.
The stock is currently up 2.4 percent in Hong Kong at HK$9.35.
