WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - Automotive retailer AutoNation, Inc. (AN) Thursday reported second-quarter net income of $100.4 million or $0.83 per share, up from $89.9 million or $0.73 per share in the prior year.
On average, 12 analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to earn $0.87 per share for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.
Total revenues for the quarter grew 8% to $4.79 billion from $4.43 billion a year ago, with increase across all major business sectors. Analysts estimated revenues of $4.80 billion for the quarter.
The company said its revenues were driven by stronger performance in new vehicles, parts and service, and finance and insurance.
In the quarter, AutoNation's retail new vehicle unit sales increased 6% on a same store basis.
