CUPERTINO (dpa-AFX) - Following its $3 billion acquisition of Beats Electronics, Apple is cutting 200 of its staff. According to Bloomberg, the cuts will come in the human resources, finance and other areas in which Apple's current staff overlaps.
According to 9to5Mac, Apple execs visited Beats headquarters this week and told some workers that they will not be included in the transition.
Reports say that Apple has set up a dedicated phone line for Beats employees to speak with Apple HR about severance packages or transition plans.
The New York Post writes that the cuts, scheduled to come ahead of the August 1 closing of the deal, amount to roughly 40 percent of Beats' global workforce.
Apple had 41,300 employees at the end of June.
The Beat's purchase was the biggest in Apple's history, bolstering Apple's iTunes service with a streaming music service and headphone line.
