ROME (dpa-AFX) - Italian lender Intesa Sanpaolo S.p.A.(IITSF.PK, ISNPY.PK) reported that its net income for the second-quarter of 2014 increased to 217 million euros, from 116 million euros in the prior year quarter.
Quarterly operating income was 4.457 billion euros, up 9.4% from 4.074 billion euros last year.
Net interest income for the quarter amounted to 2.104 billion euros, up 3.4% from 2.035 billion euros in the prior year quarter. Net fee and commission income grew to 1.727 billion euros, from 1.571 billion euros in the previous year.
In 2014, the Intesa Sanpaolo Group will continue to prioritise the delivery of sustainable results. Focus will thus remain on the various initiatives aimed at strengthening the capital position and steadily improving the profile of risk and liquidity, as well as on profitability targets.
The Group's efficiency, productivity and asset quality will be addressed constantly. Repricing actions will make it possible also for 2014 to limit, in part, the impact of an expected negative environment on market rates.
