LONDON (dpa-AFX) - The average asking price for a house in the United Kingdom jumped 0.9 percent on month in September, property tracking website Rightmove said on Monday - standing at 264,875 pounds.
That follows the 2.9 percent contraction in August.
On a yearly basis, house prices spiked 7.9 percent, accelerating from the 5.3 percent gain in the previous month.
By region, prices in East Anglia jumped 3.7 percent on month, while West Midlands dropped 1.8 percent, Wales lost 1.6 percent and London added 0.9 percent.
'We usually see a price fall at this time of year as potential home movers are generally still in holiday mode,' said Rightmove director Miles Shipside. 'However, it looks like there are early signs of a bounce-back in demand after the summer lull, leaving those estate agents with a shortage of stock at a potential disadvantage and therefore eager to attract new instructions.'
