TOYOTA (dpa-AFX) - Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. Inc., a unit of Toyota Motor Corp. , announced that it plans to conduct a voluntary safety recall of about 20,000 vehicles covering the 2014 Avalon, Camry, Highlander, Sienna, and Model Year 2015 Lexus RX vehicles equipped with the 2GR-FE engine.
The company said that in the involved vehicles, the end cap on the right-hand fuel delivery pipe in the engine compartment could have been insufficiently welded during manufacturing at the supplier. In this condition, fuel could leak from the fuel delivery pipe and, in the presence of an ignition source, could increase the risk of a vehicle fire.
Toyota said that it is not aware of any fires, crashes, injuries or fatalities caused by this condition.
Toyota and Lexus dealers will inspect the fuel delivery pipe and if it was produced at the involved supplier, replace it with a new one.
