WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - CONSOL Energy Inc. (CNX), a Pittsburgh-based producer of natural gas and coal, reported a narrower GAAP net loss of $2 million, or $0.01 per share, for the third quarter, as against a loss of $64 million, or $0.28 per share, in the year-ago period.
The firm's adjusted net income for the 2014 third quarter was $20 million, or $0.09 per share, after adjusting for unusual items. On average, 19 analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected earnings of $0.19 per share for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.
Total revenue and other income grew year-over-year to $884.62 million from $803.35 million, whereas 10 analysts expected revenues of $889.06 million.
