DEARBORN (dpa-AFX) - Auto giant Ford Motor Co. (F), Wednesday issued a safety recall of about 205,000 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX vehicles of model year 2007-2008 in North America for possible corrosion under the reinforcement brackets where the fuel tank is mounted to the vehicle.
Ford said the condition may result in a fuel odor, fuel leak or potentially see a check engine light on the dashboard. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source may result in a fire. The company said it is aware of one case of fire, but no injuries or accidents.
The affected vehicles include certain 2007-2008 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX vehicles built at Oakville Assembly, from June 15, 2006 to Sept. 22, 2008. The recall includes 186,024 vehicles in the U.S. and 18,424 vehicles in Canada.
The SUVs are being recalled in Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Washington, D.C. Also covered are the Canadian provinces of New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island and Quebec.
Ford noted that the dealer will inspect the fuel tank and either replace or repair it at no cost to the customer.
