WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - NiSource Inc. (NI) reported third-quarter income from continuing operations of $31.5 million, or $0.10 per basic share, compared to $49.5 million, or $0.16 per basic share, for the same period in 2013. Net operating earnings from continuing operations was $45.5 million, or $0.14 per share, for the quarter.
On average, seven analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to report profit per share of $0.16 for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.
Gross revenues were $1.14 billion, compared to $1.08 billion, a year ago. Analysts expected revenue of $1.13 billion for the quarter.
NiSource CEO Robert Skaggs Jr. said the company's third quarter results were on plan and that it continues to expect to achieve non-GAAP earnings at the upper half of its full-year outlook of $1.61 to $1.71 per share, and that the company remains on track with its record $2.2 billion capital investment program during 2014. Analysts expect the company to report full year earnings per share of $1.71.
