OAK BROOK (dpa-AFX) - Fastfood chain McDonald's Corp. (MCD) plans to remove certain layers of management and create a new organizational structure in the U.S., the Wall Street Journal reported.
The efforts are aimed at responding to consumer tastes in a better way as the company is grappling with declining sales and profits.
Earlier this month, McDonald's reported a 30 percent decline in profit for the third quarter, reflecting lower revenues amid negative guest traffic in all major segments and the impact of a supplier issue in China.
According to the report, the company plans to give heads of its 22 U.S. regions more freedom in deciding menu as per local taste. They will also have more autonomy regarding marketing decisions.
The firm also plans to create four zones-Northeast, South, Central and West. This will replace the current structure of three divisions-West, East and Central.
MCD closed up 0.7 percent on Thursday at $93.38.
