WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - A nurse from Dallas, Texas has sued the parent company of the hospital she worked for, alleging that the hospital failed to provide required training to deal with Ebola virus because of which she contracted the deadly disease last fall.
Nurse Nina Pham had contracted the Ebola virus while providing care to Thomas Duncan, the first patient diagnosed with the deadly disease in the U.S., at the Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas. Thomas Duncan fell ill during a visit from his native Liberia in September and died on October 8.
The lawsuit filed in the District Court of Dallas County alleges that Texas Health Resources failed to provide necessary training for the staff to deal with the deadly virus. The suit alleges the hospital did not provide needed protection equipment and were grossly negligent.
According to LA Times, Pham said in a statement, that she had hoped the hospital's parent company would be 'more open and honest about everything that happened at the hospital, and the things they didn't do that led to me getting infected with Ebola. But that didn't happen, and I felt I was left with no choice but to turn to the courts for help.'
Pham also complained that the company disclosed her personal information and filmed her without her prior consent.
Pham is seeking damages for her physical pain and mental anguish, as well as loss of reputation.
