WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - Abercrombie & Fitch Co. (ANF) reported a first-quarter net loss of $63.2 million or $0.91 per share, compared to a loss of $23.7 million or $0.32 per share, prior year. Excluding certain charges, the company reported an adjusted non-GAAP net loss of $37.2 million or $0.53 per share, for the first quarter.
On average, 33 analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to report a loss per share of $0.34 for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items. ? Net sales decreased 14% to $709.4 million, driven by a comparable sales decline of 8% and an adverse effect from changes in foreign currency exchange rates of 6%. Analysts expected revenue of $730.91 million for the quarter.
Net sales decreased 11% to $448.9 million in the U.S. and 18% to $260.5 million internationally. Comparable sales for the first quarter decreased 7% in the U.S. and 9% internationally.
