WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - Diversified specialty metals producer Allegheny Technologies, Inc. (ATI) reported Tuesday that net loss attributable to the company widened to $16.4 million or $0.15 per share from $3.8 million or $0.03 per share in the prior-year quarter.
Results for the latest quarter include $10.8 million of HRPF start-up and Rowley PQ qualification costs.
On average, eight analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to report earnings of $0.04 per share for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude one-time items.
Sales for the quarter decreased 9 percent to $1.02 billion from $1.12 billion in the same quarter last year. Analysts were looking for sales of $1.04 billion.
The company said results were adversely affected by lower demand in both the Flat Rolled Products and High Performance Materials and Components segments.
