WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - Northern Trust Corp. (NTRS) reported that its second-quarter net earnings allocated to common and potential common shares were $259.3 million or $1.10 per share, compared with $178.8 million or $0.75 per share in the comparable quarter last year.
Excluding items, net income per share in the current quarter was $1.01 and excluding charges and write-offs, net income per share in the prior year quarter was $0.87. On average, 19 analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to earn $0.96 per share. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.
Total revenue for the latest second quarter rose 16 percent to $1.26 billion from $1.08 billion in the previous-year quarter, primarily reflecting higher other operating income, trust, investment and other servicing fees and foreign exchange trading income. Wall Street analysts had a consensus revenue estimate of $1.16 billion for the quarter.
