FALLS CHURCH (dpa-AFX) - General Dynamics Corp. (GD) said second-quarter net earnings increased to $752 million from $541 million in the previous year. Earnings per share rose to $2.27 from $1.58 last year.
Earnings per share from continuing operations for the quarter were $2.27 per share, up from $1.88 in the year-ago period.
On average, 18 analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected earnings of $2.06 per share for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.
Revenues for the quarter grew 5.5 percent to $7.88 billion from $7.47 billion in the prior year. Analysts expected revenues of $7.68 billion.
Looking ahead to fiscal 2015, the company increased its outlook for earnings from continuing operations to a range of $8.70 to $8.80 per share from the prior range of $8.05 to $8.10 per share. The Street expects the company to earn $8.61 per share for the year.
