WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - Energy holding company NiSource, Inc. (NI) reported second-quarter loss from continuing operations - controlling interest of $36.1 million or $0.11 per share, compared to income of $78.5 million or $0.25 per share in the prior year quarter.
On a non-GAAP basis, net operating earnings from continuing operations - controlling interest for the quarter of $56.8 million or $0.18 per share, compared to $77.9 million or $0.25 per share in the year-ago quarter.
On average, eight analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to report earnings of $0.22 per share for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.
Gross revenues for the latest second quarter declined to $1.18 billion from $1.34 billion in the comparable quarter last year, while four analysts had a consensus revenue estimate of $1.50 billion for the quarter.
On July 2, NiSource declared a quarterly dividend of 15.5 cents per share, consistent with the company's intention, announced in May, to increase the combined dividend.
