BRUSSELS (dpa-AFX) - Greece's unemployment rate dropped more-than-expected in May, figures from the Hellenic Statistical Authority showed Thursday.
The seasonally adjusted jobless rate fell to 25.0 percent in May from 25.6 percent in April. Economists had expected the rate to fall to 25.5 percent.
The latest jobless figure was the lowest since June 2012, when the rate was 24.9 percent. In the corresponding month of the previous year, the jobless rate was 27.0 percent.
The number of unemployed people decreased to 1.201 million in May from 1.3 million a year ago.
The youth unemployment rate, which applies to the 15 to 24 age group, dropped to 51.8 percent in May from 53.1 percent last year.
The number of individuals employed increased to 3.604 million from 3.522 million in the previous year period.
