BERLIN (dpa-AFX) - Germany's consumer prices remained flat as initially estimated in September and wholesale prices continued to fall, final data from Destatis showed Tuesday.
As estimated, consumer price inflation fell to zero from 0.2 percent in August. A lower rate of -0.3 percent had been registered this year in January.
On a monthly basis, consumer prices dropped 0.2 percent in September versus nil growth in August.
The statistical office confirmed its provisional results published on September 29.
Low inflation was mainly caused by a 9.3 percent drop in energy prices. Excluding energy prices, core inflation came in at 1.1 percent in September.
Prices of goods decreased 1.3 percent, while food prices advanced 1.1 percent. At the same time, cost of services also advanced 1.1 percent.
The harmonized index of consumer prices dropped 0.2 percent annually after rising 0.1 percent each in June, July and August.
Month-on-month, the indicator slid 0.3 percent in September. Preliminary estimates were left unrevised.
Another report from Destatis showed that wholesale prices continued to decline in September.
On a yearly basis, wholesale prices slid 1.8 percent year-on-year after falling 1.1 percent in August. This was the biggest fall since February. Prices have been falling since July 2013.
The indicator fell 0.6 percent from August, when it dropped 0.8 percent.
