BURBANK (dpa-AFX) - Entertainment giant Walt Disney Co. (DIS) has lost three million subscribers at its sports network ESPN within a year.
In a regulatory filing, Disney said that estimated subscribers at ESPN as of October 3, 2015 were 92 million, down 3.2 percent from 95 million in the prior year and 99 million in 2013. The subscriber figure is now the same as that ESPN had in 2006.
Bloomberg reported in October that ESPN was planning to cut up to 350 jobs. The sports network employs about 8000 people worldwide.
In August, Disney had announced that earnings at its cable networks were below its estimates, hurt by subscriber losses and currency translation.
DIS is trading at $116.34, down $2.35 or 1.96 percent on a volume of 589,487 shares.
